Using Compensatory Cognitive Training and CogSMART for Veterans With PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury

Author(s):

Description

Trauma is related to neuropsychiatric conditions that result in cognitive dysfunction—difficulty with attention, memory and executive function—which can lead to functional impairment, disability and poor quality of life. This course describes Compensatory Cognitive Training (CCT) and Cognitive Symptom Management and Rehabilitation Therapy (CogSMART) for individuals with neuropsychiatric conditions, including traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and PTSD.

This course describes CCT and CogSMART, which focus on strategies to improve organization, attention, memory, cognitive flexibility, problem-solving and planning. The presenter reviews research findings, demonstrates key components of the interventions, and discusses clinical aspects of intervention delivery, including identifying candidates and linking cognitive strategies with rehabilitation goals.
